Every dealer I have taken a bike to (Suzuki and Harley) tightens the belt too much.
Run the belt as loose as you can without it "skipping" or jumping a tooth. Leave lots of slack.
Best test:
Prop the bike up so the back tire is off the ground. Put bike in neutral. Adjust belt to what you think looks good and spin the tire both forward and backward. Loosen the belt a little and spin the tire again. Keep loosening the belt until the spin time no longer increases when you loosen it, especially the backward spin.
Remember: With a belt, too loose is much better than too tight. If it doesn't skip, it's not too loose.
